IlisaraRules.png Historically, blacksmiths have played a number of other roles, including farrier, wainwright and wheelwright. They shape weapons, armor, and other items out of iron and steel. Metalworkers specializing in bronze or copper are sometimes referred to as "redsmiths", and those that work with tin or pewter (or who finish and polish metal goods in general) are known as "whitesmiths”.

In Ilisara, blacksmiths often worship Duros, divine forgemaster and patron of the dwarves.

Blacksmithing Reagents

Blacksmiths use Leather and Metal to create their crafts. Use your imagination — if there’s an RP reason your character ought to be able to make something specific, come up with a recipe for it.

  • Common materials cost 5 gold apiece
  • Rare materials cost 50 gold apiece
  • Epic materials cost 150 gold apiece

Crafting Time

Blacksmiths must have a Blacksmithing kit and work, undisturbed, for 2 or more hours to create items. Some take longer than others (DM discretion). All blacksmithing items require an anvil and a very hot fire or forge to be crafted. Anvils can be created by Artisans.

Notably, when Blacksmiths create weapons, at the time of the weapon’s forging the weapon can have gemstones embedded inside of it by an Enchanter. Gemstones allow weapons to have special enhanced properties. The number of gemstones that may be embedded vary by weapon. Gemstones cannot be embedded inside of a weapon that has already been forged.

Craftable Items

Blacksmiths can create heavy armor (plate, ringmail, chainmail, and splint). They can also forge weapons and horseshoes.
