Long ago, legend tells that Vandun offered a few dwarven smiths a taste of power if they would steal Mithrus, Gem of Dwarven Might, and deliver it to Vandun. Vandun wished to use the gem in order to sunder the earth wide. Though the attempt to steal Mithrus was successful, it was recovered by the dwarven King Lokkhan before the smiths could summon Vandun to the world and deliver the gemstone. The smiths and their kin were forced to flee into the dark volcanic depths of the Snowfell Mountains or die by King Lokkhan’s hand.
Despite their failure, Vandun rewarded the dwarves with sinister power over Shadow for their loyalty. They were the first Dark Dwarves. Years later, they discovered the Dark Elves who had settled above ground in the Snowfell Mountains. They made communion the dark elves, and have been working together ever since.
