A human in clanging plate armor holds her shield before her as she runs toward the massed goblins. An elf behind her, clad in studded leather armor, peppers the goblins with arrows loosed from his exquisite bow.
A dwarf in chain mail interposes his shield between the ogre’s club and his companion, knocking the deadly blow aside. His companion, a half-elf in scale armor, swings two scimitars in a blinding whirl as she circles the ogre, looking for a blind spot in its defenses.
A gladiator fights for sport in an arena, a master with his trident and net, skilled at toppling foes and moving them around for the crowd’s delight—and his own tactical advantage. His opponent’s sword slashes through the air.
All of these characters (description courtesy of [D&D Beyond]) are non-casters: people who use martial prowess to defeat their foes in combat. In the Ilisara RPG, non-casters are any characters who do not use magic abilities as their Basic Attack or Tier Abilities. Some characters might use a combination of spells and weapons and hybridize between being a caster or non-caster.
A non-spell-casting character relies heavily on their weapon. As you would expect, many of their abilities revolve around the Strength and Dexterity abilities. The requirements for a non-caster to use various weapon types are laid out on the Equipment page, under the Weapons section.
Basic Attack
At level 1, you will receive a weapon which determines how much damage your Basic Attack does. Every weapon has a different Strength and Dexterity requirement to use, which can be found on the Equipment page, under the Weapons section.
Tier Abilities
Like spell casters, non-casters can create themed Tier Abilities as long as they follow a set power curve. The formula for determining how much damage a Tier Ability can do is simpler for a non-caster.
Tier 3
Single Target Attack: Weapon damage +2
Multi-target Attack: Weapon damage / 2
Utility: Bursts of speed, augments to Attack or Defense, short-range teleportation, etc.
Tier 2
Single Target Attack: Weapon damage +5 and effect, or +6 no effect.
Multi-target Attack: Weapon damage * (⅔)
Utility: Drop combat to stealth, silence, disarm, etc.
Tier 1
Single-Target Attack: Weapon damage + 10
Multi-target Attack: Max weapon damage to all targets
